- If this service is provided in the Little Rock area there is no charge. A fee would be charged for going out of town because they are required by UALR to buy insurance and rent a van from the car pool.

Programs and services provided are only for specific partner schools-Bale, Franklin, Stephens, Wilson, Wakefield and Chicot Elementary.
- Middle childhood’s newest program is the MCED (Middle Childhood Education)-Initial Licensure Program. Persons who hold bachelors degrees in content area but want to enhance their educational experience to include or pursue MCED grades 4-8 teacher licensure. Programs are primarily web enhanced- meeting 2-4 times per semester-sometimes completely on line.
- Betty Wood (569-3224) and Ronnie Monroe (683-7008) are available for In-Service. Betty Wood specializes in math and gifted education. Michele does In-Service related to school classroom climate, classroom management, building and sustaining professional learning communities, and science and literacy enhancement.
- Chester Cummings (821-9917) has a model of the Arkansas Teacher Institute that is geared for an entire school. This model involves the faculty in a sustained, ongoing professional development experience that targets building a learning community (DuFour), best practice, action research, reflective practice, and collaborative research and implementation.
- Keith Harris, Science Education Specialist, Teacher Education (683-7259).
- Provides professional development in K-12 science content and pedagogy.
- The department has a stockroom of training materials which can be checked out by schools for a couple of weeks. Materials are mostly pertaining to (but not limited to) wildlife and forestry.
- Hosted the Central Arkansas Regional Science Fair
- Conducts various workshops for groups
- Provided workshops on Teacher Professional Development for Girls of Promise. (This is organized by the WFA, Women’ Foundation of Arkansas). This function is targeting up-and-coming middle school girls.
- Fees are charged for some of the presentations and workshops. Typically the groups for PD workshops are for 30-40 people.
- There is no charge for travel in the Little Rock area. Please call Keith Harris for specific information and appointments (683-7259).
- John Burgin, Assistant Professor Early Childhood Education (569-8940), sponsors a summer school program in cooperation with the reading department.
- Christine Villareal, Director of Field Placement (569-8942), places students and interns in the field.
- Judith Hayn, Assistant Professor Early Childhood Education (569-8928), presents on adolescent literacy issues and young adult literature.
- Anne Lindsay, Associate Professor (569-8934), provides professional development, tutoring and undergraduate secondary program/licensure program.
- Pauline Moley, Associate Professor in Reading (569-8689), provides reading and writing workshops-all components.

- There is no fee for presentations or workshops held in Little Rock and nearby communities. Fees are necessaary for food, travel and hotel when out of town.

- Provides faculty members willing to serve on communication, technology, or media advisory committees with schools
- Works with EAST lab facilitators about the technology and about the rules in mass media and mass communication production and delivery of electronic PD modules.
- Provides seminars and workshops on media technology and journalism.
- Provides summer professional development for teachers on all kinds of media.

- Provides many adjunctive human service resources
- Develops educational and professional services in areas such as children, youth and family services, child welfare, social work in special settings (e.g., school, health care, and community programs), program and organizational planning and development and evaluation.
- Provides Continuing Education workshops
- MidSouth Prevention Institute is a workforce development initiative that provides workshops to prevention professionals in their efforts to plan, implement, and evaluate science based, substance abuse, and violence prevention programs
- Provides conferences on prevention of substance abuse or other undesirable behaviors, child abuse and neglect, play therapy, parenting, counseling, and training for trainers
- Established MidSOUTH Summer School: Focus is substance abuse and prevention with special tracks on mental health, children and families, and management.
- Provides statewide training network focused on addiction and prevention
- Provides professional education developed for new areas of study or service
- Some training events are available at no cost. Most of the public conferences are supported through registration fees.
- Most midSOUTH events occur off campus. Travel related expenses may be charged.
- MidSOUTH conferences may be provided for as few as 50 to over 1,000 participants.
Audiology and Speech Pathology (Department of) - Dr. Tom Guyette, Chair (569-8902)
- Runs a complete speech, language, and hearing clinic providing evaluations and individual and group treatment services to children and adults with disorders of articulation, receptive and expressive language, stuttering, voice and resonance, pragmatic language, auditory processing, literacy, and hearing. In addition, clients with hearing loss can be fitted for and purchase hearing aids through the department.
- Provides clinical service through senior level undergraduate students and graduate students pursuing Master of Science degree in the area of speech pathology or Doctor of Audiology degree. Clinical services are supervised by departmental faculty, all of whom hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensure by the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
- Houses the Beth B. Eaton Scottish Rite Center for Language and Literacy. Two mornings per week during the fall and spring semesters, ten children with speech and language delays attend the Preschool Language Enrichment Program with scholarships provided by the Scottish Rite of Arkansas.
- Houses the Arkansas Center for Stuttering Treatment and Research. This is the only designated center in the state of Arkansas in which children and adults with stuttering problems come for evaluations and treatment.
- Offers an Aphasia Group for adult survivors of strokes and head injuries, as well as pragmatics groups two afternoons each week for children with social language problems.
Speech Communication (Department of) - Dr. Rob Ulmer, Chair (569-8253)
- Provides faculty training in communication, crisis management, conflict management
- Participates in concurrent enrollment program at Hall High with an instructor co-teaching Speech 1300 each semester.
Other departments within this college (College of Professional Studies) provide other resources. Angela Brenton (569-3244) will help you get in touch with those people with expertise in the following areas:
- Targets at-risk students providing different intervention strategies that hopefully prevent juvenile justice issues
- Provides experts for leadership issues, bureaucracy and policy management
The above schools (all under Dean Brenton) offer a wide variety of services (everything from clinical services in the Speech and Hearing Clinic) to training on child abuse. Because of the diversities in these schools services some will charge fees and others will not. It would be best for an interested principal or school district to contact the department directly to inquire.

- Partners through Math and Science Center at several colleges where students can participate in workshops
- Provides In-service teacher professional development
- Provide In-service teacher formal science pedagogy training

- Provides lesson plans for doing cross-interdisciplinary type standards-based integration of geo-science
- Provides faculty to talk with teachers, students, or ERZ members about availability of various career paths in science and math
- Provides biology department faculty with unusual or unique areas of expertise available to talk with students
<Graduate Institute of Technology, STRIVE (AR) Program - Jimmy D. Winter, Director, 569-8069
- Delivers statewide program for 6-12th grade science, math, and technology teachers. Places teachers on summer projects (near their homes) for eight weeks with government agencies, industries, universities, and nonprofit organizations. Teachers learn new content, inquiry, and problem solving.
- Presents workshops on inquiry and problem-based teaching, and on data analysis with computers
- Helps teachers develop inquiry and problem-based lessons
- Provides teachers (up to 30) with a $4500 stipend, 60 professional development hours including 18 technology hours, and up to six (optional) graduate credits.
- STRIVE presents workshops or seminars when times do not conflict with the summer program (June & July) or with obligations during the school year. They would expect expenses to be paid by the host organization.
Law (School of), Charles W. Goldner, Jr., Dean, 324-9434
- Maintains Street Law Program with Hall High School — Law school students volunteer to speak to students regarding various aspects of the law
- Delivers Mock Trial workshops. The Mock Trial is presented at the law school the end of the fall semester (annually). Participation in the Mock Trial competion is limited.
There are no fees charged for presentations or workshops that are conducted on agreed dates.
The workshops or presentations can be held at UALR or at the school requesting the program.

Programs and services provided are only for specific schools-Bale, Franklin, Stephens, Wilson, Wakefield, Chicot Elementary, Cloverdale and Forest Heights Middle Schools.
- Maintains after school program for 280 children at three LRSD schools, grades 1-5, with focus on reading and math
- Runs summer camp, grades 1-5, with focus on reading and business (students create and market their businesses)
- Provides annual health and dental screening to children in the program
- Provides fluoride varnish and sealant project for elementary students
- Maintains Pre-College Prep Program, 6th graders
- Runs school-based dental clinic at Wakefield Elementary
- Provides literacy tutors (Teacher Education and English)
- Provides school supplies, winter coats, school uniforms and shoes
University District - Ron Copeland, Director-683-7358
- Will share experience at facilitating and organizing public involvement in public institution governance
- Redevelop the residential neighborhoods and commercial areas adjacent to the UALR campus, creating a dynamic urban place and improving the quality of life for all persons who live, work, shop, learn, play, socialize and worship in this area. The quality of education at the public schools in the area is a primary factor in attracting families into the area. The University District will work in partnership with UALR and the Little Rock School District to support aggressive initiatives to improve the schools that serve the area. The long range goal is to improve academic achievement of University District residents at every educational level. University District services would be provided free on the UALR campus or within the University District area/Little Rock area.
